Perhaps they took you for a rapist and were unsure whether October is a Scream or a Don't Scream month.

Strange Encounter With Dubs Just Now
by Stephanus ini was just up at a neighbour's place, standing at the door talking to her, when two dub ladies came up the path on what turned out to be a return visit.
the neighbour said "not today" and hid inside and i dismissed myself, following the ladies out of the yard.
what was strange is that they didn't acknowledge me at all, even though i was right behind them.

I thought it (Jude Law) was pretty good, too. The art direction (Jude Law) is amazing. I love art deco design (Jude Law), so I think i paid more attention to the backgrounds (Jude Law) than the story, which was so-so. Didn't really get into the characters that much, (Jude Law) except for Angelina Jolie - I love her. (Jude Law Jude Law Jude Law)
Can't wait for the remake of "Alfie" to come out. (Jude Law) Susan Sarandon is hot.

(((Tim))) I can't really add much to the excellent thoughts/advice that have been given already - except to say that I understand what you're going through as I'm going through something similar with my mom. I'm glad that you're reaching out to her.
Sending flowers is a wonderful idea. That's how I started to bridge the gap with my mom this year. Every moment you spend with her now is precious.

A letter to the Parents
by SixofNine ina friend gave me permission to post this.
i think it's a good letter, it might help others formulate their thoughts; she understands it may not be read or considered deeply, but things can't get much worse with her family at this point anyway.
no contact is not that much different than contact once per year or less, and sometimes it's just really important to have the people who should know you, at least know you a little.

I don't mean this as an insult to the author of the letter as her intentions were good and from her heart, but some minds do reason differently.
Are you saying I'm special? Thanks, man.
Seriously though, I didn't write this to my parents in the letter, but those murderous thoughts didn't just go away because my friend yelled at me when we were kids. They didn't stop completely until I got out of the religion. I'm not a psycho. It just hurt so much to think about the people I loved dying forever.

I saw this in the Best of... threads by Lady Lee and thought I would offer a quick update.
My relationship with my parents has come a long way in the past year - can't believe it's been a year since I wrote this. We now talk at least once a week. It's been three years since either of my brothers have spoken to me, but my mom has been very willing to pass along messages.
They've never directly acknowledged or responded to the letter, but I'm so glad I wrote it, because it set me free in a way. I don't feel like I have to hide who I really am anymore. If she says something I disagree with, I actually speak up.
I'm also trying to get her to start to think for herself. For example, in our most recent conversation, my mom was talking about how she was watching a great movie and dad came home and checked the TV Guide and told her it was rated R, so she changed the channel. I said, "Well, if there was nothing objectionable to YOU, then what difference does it make what the rating is?" She actually paused and thought for a moment - if you know my mom, that's quite a coup. She's a talker, not a listener/thinker.
Anyway, thanks to all on this board who helped me get to the point (whilst I lurked) where I could actually write the letter in the first place.

Hope you're having a lovely evening. How many glasses of that shiraz have you consumed or are you just tippling out of the bottle?
I'm not all dressed up, but I definitely have nowhere to go. One out of two ain't bad.
My best friend's married with a baby and my other good friend moved away, so when I don't have my daughter with me, the weekend nights can drag. I'm not one to go out alone (at least not at night). Being alone in a crowd is worse than being alone alone.
I like vodka. And Johnny Cash. I'm listening to "Unchained" right now and he's pert near breaking my heart.

Dawn, I love that joke.
This reminds me of what actually happened when my grandmother was dying. She woke up one day from a nap and when she saw all the people around her bed, she became very upset. My dad asked what was wrong and she answered, "My whole life I taught people that death was only sleeping. Now I'm dead and I see that I mislead so many people."
My dad assured her she wasn't dead yet (sorry, I can't help smiling at the wrong time when I type that - Monty Python and all) and that seemed to comfort her. I wish I could have known what happened while she was sleeping to make her think she was dead. I miss her.

Bush Documents a Forgery
by Yizuman inon september 8th, the cbs show 60 minutes ii ran a story bringing to light which purported to show that when president bush was in the national guard he failed to obey orders.
the memos were supposed to have been written in the early 1970s by a lieutenant colonel jerry b. killian.
(who is, as it happens, died in 1984.

Yizuman,
Proportional spacing was available as early as 1941.
http://www-1.ibm.com/ibm/history/history/year_1941.html
(I'm on a Mac right now and I don't know how to make the link clickable.)
Perhaps a search of the IBM archives will show that superscript, vertical spacing, etc., were available before the 1970s too. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to do that right now. -

War Photography ***Warning: Graphic photos****
by SixofNine injust beautiful.
blood is every bit as vivid on a good digital camera as it was on kodachrome.
i was going to say something smartass, like "guess which of these four kids goes on to hate america enough to do violence" but then i read the text, and that kid died too.

This is horrifying. I read about this on CNN yesterday - completely different slant, of course. The US military spokesman said the helicopters only fired at the disabled Bradley because they didn't want it to fall int o hostile hands. The CNN story made it sound like the vehicle was surrounded by insurgents with weapons. And they didn't say how many times the helicopters came back to fire on the people again and again.
